GET COMFORTABLE WITH BEING UNCOMFORTABLE

It's true, "life happens outside of your comfort zone", but what does this mean? Where exactly outside of your comfort zone should you be and how do you stay there? Answers those questions and suddenly this quote becomes a catalyst for change, turning aimless motivation into hyper-focused vision and drive.

Leaving your comfort zone is a must if you want to reach your goals but the process is far from easy. Here’s 7 steps that will make things a bit easier:

1) DO WHAT YOU LOVE

Before you make any moves make sure to love what you do. If you don’t have true passion for what you're doing there’s a good chance you’ll give up when things get tough. Be honest with yourself; don’t justify loving what you do when you truly don’t.

2) PRIORITIZE YOUR PATH

Since you’re on the brink of a busy road ahead it’s time to prioritize and make life efficient. This will require discipline and sacrifice. Get serious and let go of negative people, influences, and habits while clinging to those who are loyal and things that give you energy and creativity. Letting go of what you’re used to can be painful but what’s worse temporary pain or forever in regret?

3) PLAN YOUR WORK

You’ve taken the first steps, now it’s time to lay it out. Plan out your year, what it will look like, and what you’d like to accomplish during this time. Break it down into months, weeks, and days. Make sure to include specific tasks you’d like to achieve within these time frames. When you do this it’s important to be realistic with your work volume and deadlines to avoid burnout. Keep it balanced.

4) WORK YOUR PLAN

Now that you have a plan, follow it. A lot of people get so caught up in the planning phase that they end up doing nothing but planning. Get up, get out, and get moving . . . even when you don't feel like it. The more you get used to putting your plans and ideas into action the sooner you’ll master uncomfortable situations.

5) EMBRACE FAILURE

Sorry #notsosorry but you’re bound to fail, especially if you’re taking more risks than normal. Failure is the secret ingredient to success because it’s a learning tool. When you stumble and fall view it as an opportunity to come back stronger every time.

6) LEARN TO ADJUST

You will make mistakes, miss opportunities, and take unexpected hits. Practice being prepared for anything so when things don’t work out as planned you’re ready to adjust. Master the ability to improvise, adapt, and overcome.

7) PACE YOURSELF

When starting off it’s easy to get excited, your hopes and high, and you’re full of energy. There’s nothing wrong with this but most tend to get ahead of themselves by going from 0 to 100, which isn’t sustainable. Work just outside of your comfort zone where it’s not easy but not too difficult. Build one layer at a time, slowly increasing the intensity and duration of your work as you go.

IT’S TIME TO GET UNCOMFORTABLE

If you’ve found what you love to do and have a vision and plan to bring your goals to life, it’s time to start making moves. The key is to be as efficient as possible, maximizing your strengths and minimizing your weaknesses. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable until it becomes comfortable, then repeat the process.
